A venue for fine dining

By Miguel S. Murillo from Makati, M. M., Philippines
Dec/27/2009

Overall

I came in blue jeans and t-shirt for lunch. I was received promptly and offered a table for two.

I browsed their menu and ordered fettucine alfredo and grouper with special sauce.

I was not informed that the grouper w/ special sauce was combined with plain rice and corn w/ minced carrots and peas (i think!).

I was thinking of ordering desserts, but they only have two of the five or six offerings they have in their menu.

Initially, I ate the pasta while the grouper was being prepared. Although there's a generous serving of the pasta I find it bland and I have to use salt to add taste to it.

Then came the the grouper with sauce and I was surprised that with in includes a cup of rice; some tarty eggplant; corn kernels with carrots and peas; and a piece of chinese cabbage with carrot ribbons on top.

I like the sauce and the skimpy tarty eggplant; however, I find the fish a bit rubbery. I barely ate the rice after having that pasta.

I called the attention of one of the waitress served me that she should have informed me about my choices.

The ambiance of the resto is really pleasant and really a venue for fine dining, however, I don't recommend it for those in jeans and t-shirt; strictly for dinner and fine dinning.

I think this resto is over-rated and by no means in the same league as those found in Manila such as Italiannis, who offered a mass-produced Italiannized food. Cibo's far better than this joint.

Liked: pleasant ambiance
Disliked: some of the restaurant staff are snooty and some need to be trained.
Would I recommend this restaurant to my best friend? This resto is definitely for dinner only.

Considered best restaurant in Tacloban

By NK from Muenster, Texas, USA

Overall

Tacloban is perhaps not kown as a culinary highlight, so I was suprised during a 10 day stay to find several nice restaurants.

A colleague took me to Giuseppe's, which is considered the best place in town. It is well set up and professionally run. Staff were well trained and very courteous.

Pasta, pizza and seafood all looked very good, and we were even advised that the red wine would be served chilled and whether that would be ok.

The menu is nice and extensive, with all Italian favorites, and a few Filipino touches.

Food was really good and there was a very pleasant atmosphere - if I lived in Tac I'd be there often.

Like most restaurants in the Philippines this too was very inexpensive, with pasta or pizza dishes costing around 3-5 US$.

Liked: well trained and very courteous staff, nice menu, really good food, very pleasant atmosphere, very inexpensive
Disliked: nothing

One of the best restaurants in Tacloban

By Jera from Quezon City, Philippines

Overall

This place is one of my favorites and whenever I am in Tacloban, I make it a point to always eat there at least once. It has a comfy ambiance and the pleasing staff adds to it.

The food is great and surely, they will recommend their seafood platter, which is actually good for 3-4 people. However, don't bother to enter this place if you have only 500 pesos in your pocket because you'll be spending more than this amount but rest assured, it's worth every peso.

I recommend this place for family or group dinners because their servings are quite large similar to Fridays. If you happen to visit Tacloban, make sure to drop by this place.

Liked: comfy ambiance, friendly staff, great food
Disliked: nothing

Mayor Romualdez took us to a dinner treat there, the owner, was very welcoming only he insisted on us ordering their special platter of god knows how much it was, the meat platter was particularly good.

I don't eat seafood but i guess its nice also. the crew were very polite and attentive. I'd like to eat again there someday when i go back to Tacloban.

Liked: crew very polite and attentive, good meat platter
Disliked: nothing to dislike

Great for family occasions

By June from Manila, Philippines

Overall

As we arrived early in the afternoon there were not yet many patrons in the restaurant. A waiter greeted and ushered us to our table. The first thing I noticed when we entered the restaurant was the bright red wall. The place was decorated with Christmas ornaments. It had dim lighting and in every table had red place mats.

I still had a full stomach at that time, so, I just ordered a Hamburger (P105). The burger comes with a home-style french fries with a tartar sauce and a few slices of tomato and cucumber. The fries weren't that crispy but the burger was good enough.

Ed decided on Spaghetti Carbonara (P150). I tried to taste it, it was creamy and simply delicious.

However, service was a little bit slow knowing that there were only few people present. But the atmosphere was relaxing and cozy that we didn't mind at all.

This place is great for family occasions. There's no dress code here, come as you are.

Liked: their Spaghetti Carbonara
Disliked: service was a little bit slow
Would I recommend this restaurant to my best friend? most likely

A bit classy by the city's standard

By Asianbelle, Philippines

Overall

I read about Guiseppe's in a travel guide under fine dining restos. Curious, we decided to take a look and see what it has to offer.

The place is a bit classy by the city's standard. In lieu of panels, panoramic windows serve as walls giving the pedestrians a glimpse of the resto's interior; alternatively, it gives the diners a view of the busy street. Inside, subdued lighting was utilized giving the resto a cozy and intimate mood. However they are lax with dress code; come as you are.

Favorite Dish: As starter, we ordered Enselata te Mareta. As the name suggests, it is fresh cucumber with shrimp and sliced squid dipped in pickle-relished mayonnaise served with pieces of crackers. Although I shy away from anything with mayo, I surprised myself coz I enjoyed the appetizer.

We also ordered Chicken-breast Pizza which turned out to be a let down. There were very few slices of chicken and the crust was not crunchy.

For main course, we had Ravioli alla Panna and it was really a good choice. The dish is made up of square-shaped fresh pasta with pork filling topped with white sauce and ham slices. It easily became my favorite such that until now, the mere thought of it makes me crave for the dish.

Liked: cozy atmosphere, Ravioli alla Panna.
Disliked: the Chicken-breast Pizza
Would I recommend this restaurant to my best friend? yes!
