Disappointed!!

By Vic Vic from Melbourne, Australia
Sep/30/2010

Overall

We stayed in what they call an unrenovated room. So many bad things almost too many too mention.

Price was more than shown on the internet. The bed went downhill on both sides and the bedclothes must have been the original ones. Hardly any power points worked.

Bathroom was dirty and hot water didn't work. Holes in the wall.

The food was ok but the service was unremarkable.

Great location with
a nice view of the sea

By Mark Bath from Manila, Philippines

Overall

Wow this hotel has really been slammed here. I stayed there a couple of years ago and stayed there again last weekend. Just dont expect western standards and realise that these workers earn around 6 US dollars a day and when it rains many of them become homeless when their simple houses are washed away. You will then be more relaxed and enjoy the scenery and the friendly people.

Yes, like many of the big hotels in Philippines it has seen better days. Lots of the common areas are looking tired - especially the old wooden 'features' which were so popular in 1980 when Imelda Marcos opened the hotel. But, you know they are improving! The location is great - near the town and the airport with a view of the sea and some very nice trees in the grounds.

The staff there could not have been more helpful! When i checked in for a 'standard' room at 2400 peosos, the receptionist said i could look at it first. It looked as if it had been recently painted in a sunny bright yellow and the large patio doors led onto a terrace with a great view of the sea over the top of the orange beach cottage roofs - a very mediterranean feel. There were the usual old wooden bits around but apart from tearing the whole place apart and starting again I really dont know what they could do to improve that part.

For breakfast, the Filipino buffet didn't look too apetising, so I ordered the American from the a la cart menu to get good fresh poached eggs, bacon, toast, marmalade, fruit and coffee (ok the brewed coffee is never great is it and there was no yogurt and wholewheat bread which would have made it really nice).

For lunch and dinner there was an interesting menu and on my last day when my flight was at 6pm, they were happy for me to have a late checkout at 4.30 so that i could enjoy their very nice 'merienda' buffet for 100 pesos - including iced tea!

I swam in the large pool before breakfast - plenty of sun loungers. No shower outside so had to make my way into the changing rooms past the junk yard around the back. Yeah, it was a bit dirty but there had been a party the night before, so maybe I should forgive them for that.

Room sucks,
Service sucks .. !!

By Larry Leizel from Chicago, Illinois, USA

Overall

Seems cheap enough by US standards for an old Motel 6 but this is booked as a resort!!

Bring your own food - we waited 3 hours to get chicken wings! Bring your drinks! The little refrigerator works but that is about all.

It is almost midnight and we are sitting here in the lounge waiting for our room to be cleaned! At least Linda is still singing!

The ONE and only plus in this whole place: The floating restaurant: That place is GREAT! Excellent food and service! (EDITORIAL NOTE: You don't even need to be a hotel guest to dine at the FLOATING RESTAURANT)

For requests to clean room with a sign on your door ... still waiting... and waiting... time for one more drink ... glad I brought my own bottle of wine!

Date of Stay: June 2010
Liked: great view, floating restaurant
Disliked: we had to wait 3 hrs (!!) for chicken wings, bad service

Did you expect 5 Star .. !?

By Eyes from USA

Overall

After reading so many reviews about this hotel, I am sure most of the complaints come from people who expected 5 stars at 3 star prices.

The hotel is dated, yes, and does need further investment .. However, I feel I got what I expected for the price, no more, no less.

The staff are friendly, and you must remember, no one is in a hurry in the philippines, and I sure was not going to hurry on my holiday.

The hot water does exist, just leave the vanity tap on for a few minutes and your shower will be hot.

The pool, while dated was was a relief from the heat, and the poolside bar was very accommodating, with cold beer or other beverages.

The room was cooled by it's own aircon, which was quite new and silent.

Overall, I was happy with my stay and will definitely return next time.

Liked: friendly staff, cold beer and beverages at poolside, aircon cool and silent
Disliked: hotel is dated and needs further investment

Despite a lot of potential -
Leyte Park Hotel is a total shame to Tacloban City!

By Malene from USA

Overall

I completely agree with that comment of Paul from Australia about Leyte Park Hotel, although there'a a lot of potential in that hotel because of the gorgeous view but the hotel itself is a complete total shame, I simply won't recommend my friends to stay in this place.

I still hope that they'll do something about it or maybe sell it to a fine hotel chain, or they should close it for a year or so for a complete renovation not just a little here and there.

I do love the City of Tacloban, I will still visit the City because some of my family still reside here but Leyte Park is a big disappointment.

Liked: gorgeous views
Disliked: the hotel itself is a total shame
Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? No, I will not recommend my friends to stay in this place!

Not recommended!

By Gallo Romantico from Houston, Texas, USA

Overall

Stayed in Pool Villa #5 on Nov 7, 2009. Room was large but very much run down and in need of renovation.

Pool was very dirty but was cleaned upon my request. Bathroom was very large but also needs renovation.

This hotel has the potential of being exceptional if it was renovated and cleaned up.

The pool villa is very roomy and has many extras but the Hotel and grounds in general is very much in need of maintenance and renovation.

I was disappointed because this resort could be so much better if it was properly maintained. I will not stay here again.

Liked: large rooms in Pool Villas
Disliked: the hotel is a total run down and in need of renovation
Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? No, I will not stay there again!

Not (quite) as bad as other reviews suggest

By NK from Muenster, Texas, USA

Overall

The Leyte Park Hotel is one of those places where choice of rooms clearly matters more than in other places. Having read the reviews I had some trepidations about encountering the place that had been booked for me and a colleague.

Location, as has been pointed out by others, is very good, and even first impression was quite reassuring.

The lobby looks ok, though it has quite some signs of wear - and is clearly a bit outdated.

Staff (throughout our 10 day stay) were extremely friendly, a definite plus.

We were apparently lucky to have Surpreme Cottages (about 50US$) booked, and those felt rather nice. Very spacious (see photo), and nice, solid wooden architecture.

Supreme Cottage in Leyte Park Resort Hotel for PHP 5,000.00+

Details, however, were less pretty - furtature with tired hinges and other signs of age, and a (huge) bathroom that was also in need of a makeover.

But overall not a bad room at all. With TV/Aircon/fridge/phone it has most things needed, and when I asked I was brought a water kettle immediately.

I had to move to an appartment for the last 2 nights (it had been clear from the beginning that I could only have my reservation until a certain day, and had expected to move to another hotel - in the end they found a space in one of the appartments). This felt more modern but not as cozy as the wooden cottage.

The rest of the resort-type had mixed views. The more modern chalets and appartments looked ok, while the main building with the standard rooms looked very worn from the outside.

The pool area is also old fashioned but quite clean. Unfortunately there was only (wireless) internet access in the lobby, but connection strength and speed were good.

Breakfast wasn't too exciting. It's not included in the room charge, and choice was rather limited (most Filipino cousine and some toast and fruit).

There is a decent Spa on the premises, and a pier-side restaurant that is ok, though in town are better options.

Overall, the stay at the LPH was much better than expected, but room type seems to be critical. I would return to the Supreme Cottage.

Date of Stay: September 2009
Liked: very good location, staff extremely friendly, supreme Cottages very spacious,
Disliked: hotel shows signs of age, needs general makeover, standard rooms look very worn from outside, (wireless) internet access only in the lobby, breakfast rather limited and not too exciting
Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? Yes.
