I am glad you have this website for Tacloban.
This is great.

I am originally from Dulag but now live in California and NY. I recently went back to Tacloban/Dulag twice last year.

I also happened to stay at both the Hotel Alejandro and Rosvenil. They are both nice hotels ... except my cell phone got stolen at Rosvenil.

When I came back to retrieve cause I left it in my room - it was gone and the Hotel Staff seem not to know. They have stripped the bed by the time I came back from the Airport to recheck. Anyway, I told Mana Rose about.

I think Honesty aside from Cleanliness should also be promoted in Tacloban. I am happy with the efforts of the current Mayor about keeping Tacloban clean.

People who litter should be issued a penalty or placed in the jail overnight so they learn their lessons. In the outskirts of the city, I still find trash all over the place.

The other thing I want to mention here is when are they going to fix the Airport in Tacloban? It is horrifying to find out that the Restrooms do not flush.

I am not at all encouraged to bring American Guests here - even though some of my friends are begging me. I have written to the Mayor about this. I did not get a response.

Can they at least fix the Restrooms so it has Flushing Toilets? I mean how much would it cost? The Water Pump is not that expensive. If they need help, we can probably do a fund raising here in the US for this purpose.

This is all, keep up this website.

H
ello Remy,

your friends are begging you to come with you? Well then don't hesitate and bring them over here and give them a stay that they won't forget ..

We have so many nice places in and around Tacloban City. First let them stay at a good comfortable hotel in Tacloban ..

Then bring them to nice places like Rafael Farm in Babatngon which is only 30 mins drive from Tacloban.

Another wonderful place is the Caluwayan Palm Island Resort in Marabut, this is 45 mins away from Tacloban City but surely worth a visit ..

Don't forget to visit the Sto. Niño Shrine and Heritage museum in Tacloban with them ..

We have nice restaurants here in Tacloban City .. Let them enjoy the fresh breeze at the San Pedro Bay Restaurant ("Floating Restaurant") near Leyte Park.

Or bring them to Guiseppe's Restaurant, which is considered one of the best places in town
for some original italian pasta ..

A good insider tip is Yolanda's Eatery near the airport where you can eat fresh sea food in an authentic provincial hut ambiance. It's also the place where you get the best prawns in Tacloban City.

Just be sure that your friends will enjoy their stay, so that they will come back!

With kind regards,
Arlene Schmidt

I would like to ask you if I can rent a car for to pick me up at the Romualdez Airport going to NHA Baras Palo on June 9 or June 10?

How much should I pay despite only 1 person and may be the trip is less than 1 hour?

Or do you have any suggestion for transportation I can take? This is my first trip to go to Tacloban.

Where can I stay within Baras Palo area which is cheaper and clean, with AC and Private Bathroom?

Looking forward for your good response.
Thank you in advance
.

H
ello Natalia,

there are so many vans and cars at the airport waiting for passengers .. They are even waiting at the exit of the airport so I think there's really no need to book them in advance.

Going to NHA from airport is only a 10 to 15 mins drive so it should not cost you more than 200 pesos.

For the porter at the airport who will carry your luggage and bring it to the van/car you can give between 30 to 50 pesos or what ever you are happy and comfortable with (but not less!!). It also depends on how much luggage you are having with you.

For the transport to your destination: Always tell the driver where you want to go and negotiate the price before driving.

It happens sometimes that they want to take advantage of you and ask for more than 1000 pesos for a 200 pesos ride (especially with foreigners) .. In that case just look for another driver ..

The only place that i know near NHA is the MacArthur Park Beach Resort Hotel but as far as i know they are still closed for renovations.

Reopening is on October 2010 but there are reasonable doubts that they will be finished in time and meet up with the expected deadline.

Arlene Schmidt

My husband and I are planing to visit my family in Baybay, Leyte and at the same time we want to go around Leyte.

We are looking for a car that we can rent, we want to drive the car our self, we used to rent a car in Cebu but it has cost us a lot to bring the car from Cebu to Leyte and neverless it has a lot of paper work.

Looking foreward for your answer.

H
ello Julie,

we get that question every now and then, there are so many people who come to Tacloban and want to rent a car, that they can drive by themselfs ..

But so far we always had to disappoint them because as far as we know there are no car rentals in Tacloban where you can drive by yourself .. There's always a driver included ..

You can find a couple of car rental companies / shuttle services over here:
RENT A CAR

The car rental companies in Tacloban always provide a driver to their cars, because it's part of their policies.

But maybe if you'll talk to them in a good way you can negotiate some compromise. And which ever shuttle service you choose you can always talk to the driver and he'll drive you wherever you want to go and stop if you want to make some sightseeing as long as you pay the gasoline.

Please let us know what kind of experiences you have had with the car rental companies in Tacloban or if you can recommend a good shuttle service there once you have been there.

Happy travels and have a nice stay in Leyte/Tacloban City.

With kind regards,
Arlene Schmidt

I completely agree with that comment of Paul from Australia about Leyte Park Hotel, although there'a a lot of potential in that hotel because of the gorgeous view but the hotel itself is a complete total shame, I simply won't recommend my friends to stay in this place.

I still hope that they'll do something about it or maybe sell it to a fine hotel chain, or they should close it for a year or so for a complete renovation not just a little here and there.

I do love the City of Tacloban, I will still visit the City because some of my family still reside here but Leyte Park is just one of my complains. There's so much more like the trash everywhere along the edges of the water, in the park and so on ..

For example at the Tacloban convention my family were walking along the vicinity but the place just smelled urine and rubbished was just all around, it was just so disappointing.

My heart sank because Tacloban is beautiful and i thought that the people should be mindful and respect this God given beautiful island.

H
ello Malene,

You're right .. the Leyte Park Hotel has been getting worse and worse over the past years. At the moment it is in a very poor state of repair.

It's a shame considering that it was once the pride of Eastern Visayas back in the 70's when Imelda Marcos used to own it ..

The incapable management is investing virtually nothing in maintenance in to this estate.

And even Imelda herself would be ashamed of what they have done to her once magnificent creation ... !!

Tacloban City has made a lot of improvements, but we still can do better .. and it starts with every single one of us ..

We, the people of Tacloban should strive to keep our own city clean .. only then we can be proud of our place and to be Taclobanon ..

Live long and prosper Tacloban .. !! For more information on what you can do to keep our City clean, please click here: KEEP TALCOBAN CITY CLEAN

To the Mayor of Tacloban City Mr. Alfred Romualdez:

Sir,

Just a Thank you to you. Thank you so much for making Tacloban more enjoyable to stay! It is so amazing how Tacloban looks like now compared it years ago.

I love my town and I am grateful to have a mayor who has the love for his town and to his constituents There are few like you now in the politacal arena.

Long live to you sir, wish you all the best and A Blessed merry Christmas to you, your family and to your staff!

there's nothing to add to that. I'm sure Mayor Alfred will be happy when he can read this.

Leyte Park may have been nice in 1994, 15 years ago when it was last renovated but now it is completely run down and filthy.

The service is appalling - complete apathy and disregard. The food is the worst I have seen on the planet. Nothing works and no one can fix it. Even the expensive Pool Villas are run down and simple things like the fans and DVD player do not work.

In out stay which was meant to be a romantic getaway we spent more time with repair staff and in dispute with management than happy together. There was no privacy becuase there was always someone coming in to the Villa to fix something or clean something that should have been done before we checked in.

Do not stay at this so-called resort, certainly never eat here. Leyte Park is an old dumping ground with rubbish everywhere yet they still charge high rates - particularly for the Pool Villa which is not up to standard. This is not suitable for any international guests. If possible - avoid Tacloban completely!

H
ello Paul,

thank you for sending us your Hotel Recommendation, it has been added to our Hotel Reviews at TaclobanHotels.com.

You can find it here: REVIEWS LEYTE PARK HOTEL

We just had to delete your last sentence as - for the records - we are a Pro-Tacloban-Website.

We want people to come to Tacloban City and NOT to "avoid Tacloban completely".

Because as we see it, you can really have a nice time in Tacloban City, as long as you stay at the right hotel/pensione and visit the right places.

Besides, Tacloban has been improving a lot lately if you take the new Malls for instance or how clean Tacloban has become compared to before.

Mayor Alfred is doing a good job most of the time and doing a lot for the city, that is as long as he is concentrating on his job as a mayor and serving the people instead of going wild on the Petilla's once again ..

So Paul, we hope your vacation was not that bad at all and that you'll give this city another chance .. maybe you can enjoy your stay a little bit more the next time you come back to Tacloban City.

Thanks for your support.

With kind regards,
Arlene and Christian Schmidt

I would like to stay in the Rosvenil Pensione for 1 week.

Please give me your special rates for a single room, maybe double as single occupation.

I need a very quite room with TV, aircon and shower.
I prefer your new adjacent building.

Sincerely Yours,
TOM.

Hi Tom,

The ROSVENIL PENSIONE located at Burgos Street is always a good choise when coming to Tacloban City. This Pensione offers an excellent quiet retreat with a homey ambiance. At the same time it is still very affordable.

The rates for the Rosvenil Pensione
in Tacloban City are as follows:

Standard Double: PHP 650.00
Standard Matrimonial: PHP 550.00

De Luxe Single: PHP 500.00
De Luxe Double: PHP 975.00
De Luxe Matrimonial: PHP 930.00

All rooms have:
Airconditioning
Cable TV
Telephone

'Standard Rooms' offer only Cold Shower while 'De Luxe' rooms have Hot & Cold Shower.

For reservations and inquiries just call their front desk at 0063.53.321.2676.

When calling from Germany add 01035 (so that would be 01035.0063.53.321.2676) to the number so that the call will cost you only about 11,5 Cent per minute instead of 1 Euro plus or more per minute ..

Have a pleasant stay in Tacloban City and Happy Travels!

Could you please advise me how I can get from Tacloban to Padre Burgos. Are shared van rides available for example ? Any advice you could give (company names etc) would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Kind regards,
Ash.

Hi Ash,

Padre Burgos lies on the tip of Southern Leyte. It's a small laid back town ideal for resting away from the busy cities. Padre Burgos is a small backwater town with friendly people. Life there is pretty much unhurried.

You won't find much nightlife there, there are no malls, no fastfood restaurants and internet cafes. For that you need to come back to Tacloban City.

Visitors come to this town every year to catch the gentle whale sharks. Whale watching trips are popular, and there are a number of tours available.

Padre Burgos also offers good diving sights and snorkeling. It is well known as one of the best places for diving in the Philippines. Night diving is becoming more and more popular and one of the best night diving sites is that of Padre Burgos Jetty, just off Limasawa Island.

How to get there:
Take a passenger van at the New Bus Terminal to Sogod. The fare is about P150.00 for a 2 hour and thirty minute drive.
from Sogod you have to take a one hour jeepney or bus ride to Padre Burgos. Fare is about P60.00

If your goal is the Sogod Bay Dive Resort they can also arrange a transfer for you, but that will cost you P3000.00. They can also transfer from Leyte ferry terminals in Bato, Hilongos, Ormoc and Maasin.

You should contact them before your arrival so that they can check the schedule of ferries as they can change seasonally and without notice.

Warm regards,
Christian Schmidt

Hello, we just left the Philippines the other day. My wife & I have a home on Biliran Island.

I was wondering if you could help me out with some information. I want to buy a sit on top kayak for use at my home on Biliran. Do you think the new mall will have a sporting goods department.

Do you know of a place in Tacloban that I could buy one when we come back next year. Thanks for your help in advance. They have them in Manila but they won't ship to Biliran.

Steve Duling.

Hi Steve,

I hope you and your wife had a nice vacation. As for your request: I had to ask a friend, but he don't think that we have kayaks for sale here in Tacloban. You may have to go to Cebu or Manila to buy those.

For sports equipments in Tacloban City you can go to Cua's along Avenida Veterano St. or Leyte Sports Emporium along Salazar St.

But as far as I know they offer Kayaking at the
JASMIN BEACH RESORT in Marabut, Samar. Maybe you could ask them from where they've got their kayaks.

You can contact them over Tel. 0063.53.276.5232 or through email

I have a suggested category for your web site. I find it nearly impossible to find out about upcoming events in the Tacloban City area. Example would be the convention center events, school sports, festivals etc.

The standard WWWWW (Who, What, Why, When and Where). An upcoming events section I believe would be very beneficial to your readers and the activities you include.

Also, your site is great. I review it nearly everyday to catch the news.

Thanks,
Ken.

Hi Ken,

glad to hear that you like our website. We put a lot of effort in updating the Tacloban News Section almost daily and we only add the news that really matter or that might be of interest about the Tacloban region.

About your suggested 'Upcoming Events'-section: We had that before here at TaclobanHotels.com, but due to lack of events we
removed it from our website.

Instead we moved it to our forum, so that everyone can update new Tacloban Events. You can find it
HERE ..

Well so much for the theory, because at the end we're still the one updating the Tacloban Events that we know of ..

So if anyone knows of any upcoming Tacloban Events, please go to
TaclobanCityForum.com, click 'Tacloban City Current Events' in the Tacloban Specific section and kindly share it with others.

I am planning to arrange a recreational activity for my old friends, probably more on sightseeing and food trip. Luckily I already find the perfect place, I am thinking of bringing them to Rafael Farm.

It so happen that I only have a very little knowledge about the place making it difficult for me to have the perfect budget for the entire event. I want to know the different kinds of food and drinks that they offer and their corresponding prices.

sincerely,
Elaine

Hi Elaine,

I tried to forward your Inquiry to Rafael Farms. But their website is offline at the moment and can not be contacted by email.

I plan a trip to Tacloban from April 15 to May 15. I'm looking for a room with or without aircon and a double bed and also a place to cook (don't want to go to restaurant everyday).

Do you have something to suggest me and prices too. I don't want to spend to much.

Thank you very much!

Hi Mike,

Are you staying here for work or just a vacation? If I'm to guess I would say that you're coming to Tacloban for a voluntary work or you have a girl here that you want to meet.

So, if you don't want to spend too much money, then you might want to give RON AND FIRE'S GUESTHOUSE a chance. It's an airconditioned Guesthouse with six dormbeds. A kitchen and laundry area is also provided for the guests. All for a very affordable price of P300.00 per night.

Also a good and safe place to stay and at the same time still very affordable is the ROSVENIL PENSIONE located at Burgos Street in the heart of Tacloban. Prices here for a matrimonial (double) bed start at P520.00 per night. This Pensione offers an excellent quiet retreat with a homey ambiance.

If you decide to rather stay in a hotel, prices for good rooms in respectable hotels start at about P900.00 to P1000.00 per night. You won't have a kitchen there but for this price you can expect a refridgerator in your room. And room-service is quick and not too expensive.

If you decide to go for the third option then the HOTEL ALEJANDRO might be a good choise. It's a much recommended hotel in Tacloban, just read the Hotel Reviews here at TaclobanHotels.com. While I myself still recommend ASIA STARS, it's a good hotel in the heart of tacloban and near to everything, with a friendly and efficient staff.

However, we have a lot of beautiful places to visit here in Tacloban. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. And don't worry too much, people here are friendly and accomodating.

With kind regards,
Arlene Schmidt

Hi there!

Thank you for building this site, it updates me of what's happening and what's new in Tacloban. It's also helpful in looking for hotels and restaurant. Well done!!

I would like to suggest if you can have a chatroom here just for taclobanos .. that would really give us (people overseas) more happy and get connected to anybody from there.

Thanks a lot & More Power!

Keep it up!!

Hi Cheeky,

thanks, we're glad that you like our website. About the chatroom for taclobanons, that's a good idea, we might add a tacloban chat to our website in the next future.

Are there any rental vans that are available for rent by the day or week? When I travel to the Philippines, and will travel to Leyte but southern city of Leyte. I would like to have a driver for a week on Leyte island.

Thank you.

Regards,
Rosario Robinson

Hello Rosario,

you should try to contact one of this shuttle services on this page
here: RENT A CAR
Their prices range from about PHP250.00 to PHP 375.00 per hour, but maybe you can rent a car for a week, too. All rates are including driver and gasoline.

Our featured shuttle service
DUPTOURS SHUTTLE SERVICES is trusted by many travellers and has a good reputation. It's a family owned business and one of the biggest rental firms in Region 8 today.

We have stayed at the Asia Stars Hotel for over ten years now. They have always treated us very well there. The rooms we have stayed in have been clean with lots of room. The A/C has always work well.

The food in the Stars cafe is very good. It's located in a good place. Now there's even a mister donut near buy. I have always recommended this hotel to any body that comes to Tacloban. We are planning on coming back to the Philippines next March and I will call the Hotel to make a reservation.

PS. We can't wait till the new Mall is finnished. I hope it's done by next March. Can you give me any up dates on the that.

Thanks

Hi Monica, hi Steve,

thank you for your hotel-recommendation, it has been added to our Hotel Reviews on TaclobanHotels.com.

You can find it here: REVIEWS ASIA STARS HOTEL

I can only agree to your
recommendation, the Asia Stars Hotel in Tacloban is a very good hotel with a friendly and efficient staff. I have stayed there several times and never had any complaints.

As for your request about the new malls in Tacloban, we have added some updated informations and pictures to TaclobanHotels.com.

You can find it here: NEW ROBINSONS AND GAISANO MALLS IN TACLBAN CITY

As far as we know both malls are supposed to open their gates within this year, even some people doubt that they can make it in time. But let's just keep optimistic and hope that we can already go for shopping at the new malls on our next visit to Tacloban.

Warm regards,
Arlene & Christian Schmidt

I am the owner of a modest pension house in tacloban city and i am most interested on how my establishment can be published or shown in your website.
thanks.

Hi Mario,

to add your pension house to TaclobanHotels.com first we need more specific information about your property.

As long as you can provide us enough information, we'll create a listing for your property on our website.

The more information you can give us, the easier it will be to write a good review of your property.

It's always a good idea to add some pictures because this is what costumers want to see. The more our visitors like what they see, the bigger the chance that they will give your pension a try.

Here's a link to our Hotel Submission Form, just complete the form and send it to us. Of course you can also add additional information not mentioned in our form.

goto: HOTEL-SUBMISSION-FORM

I hope I was able to help you, if you still have questions or problems, please contact us.

With kind regards,
C. Schmidt

Nice place to go for business, but the problem is you got the most corrupt city administrator in all the cities in the phils, I travel to many cities in the phils for business it's only in Tacloban City you will meet a very corrupt young administrator, tsk tsk tsk what a disgrace to the taclobanons.

EDITORIAL NOTE:
Mr. Yaokasin was city administrator during the time of Mayor Bejo Romualdez, and continued when Bejo's son, Alfred, was elected mayor. Alas, he was sacked by Mayor Alfred Romualdez over alleged anomalies and is now with the Petillas.

I will be in Tacloban and Babatgnon in the end of April.
I need room in Babatgnon. Do Rafael Farm also have rooms?

hi Poul,

I'm sorry but as far as I know Rafael's Farm is not offering any accommodations.
It's just a restaurant with a very beautiful landscape and sure worth a visit.

The address is:
Brgy. Pagsulhugon
Babatngon Babatngon, Leyte Province
Philippines

Rafael Farm can be contacted either by phone or email:
phone: 053.325.0729 or from abroad 0063.53.325.0729
email: inquiry@rafaelfarm.com

(For further information on
the Rafael Farm  and Restaurant please click HERE, you can find the complete contact information, some nice pictures and more background information there.)

Rafael's Farm/Babatngon is about 30 minutes from Tacloban City.
If you can't find a place to stay in Babatngon you can choose a hotel in Tacloban.
HOTEL ALEJANDRO is a much recommended hotel in Tacloban.
You can also try
ASIA STARS, it's a good hotel in the heart of tacloban and near to everything with a friendly and efficient staff.

Before you schedule your vacation you should have a look at our hotel HOTEL REVIEWS,
written by Tacloban-travellers like you.
If you would choose to stay in a Tacloban Hotel,
or find a nice restaurant in Tacloban,
it would be nice if you would return the favor and write a hotel review or a restaurant review on our site,
or a tacloban travel guide with recommendations and places to go
or whatever you would like to share with other travellers
(for example about your visit to Rafael's Farm!).

I hope you'll enjoy your stay in Tacloban and Babatngon.

happy travels,

Good site!

Make Tacloban clean, meaning, walng basura sa mga kalye na nagkakalat, o mga aso, pedicabs across Zaragoza Street, should be transferred to Zaragoza (near Cyber Quest), because, Zaragoza Street is wider than Independencia Street, that, the pedestrian lane is no longer available for the pedestrians to pass by and the Magallanes Street is narrow for any big public vehicles and how speedy the drivers are, and the safety of the many people going to the `merkadohay' as they walk to the place, is really dangerous.

Retain the traffic lights on at all times and ensure that all drivers to follow what is "red light" when traffic lights on "red" and following this procedure, will lessen accidents, besides, most roads are only on two - way opposite street.

With the so many big buildings, as in, malls being built now, and other stores and new government offices in the city and nearby areas, that's wonderful news. It would be nice to have the domestic airport expanded to International Airport, and yes, to retain the old lengganay of DWU, just paint it in fresh paint. New cabinets are needed in the City Treasurer's Office.

Though, it is not easy to acknowledge in the truth i share, who travel with me, have been giving me messages. Worldwide is still on AL NINO weather forecast. What was the "rain water" like when Typhoon Seniang and Typhoon Lando, hit many areas. I was told to tell the priests in Tacloban to have procession mass in early year of 2006 and for the priests to have a prayer petition, that the city will not be hit by a worst typhoon. The best in 2008 to the City of Tacloban and nearby areas.

As you read this comment page, you are going to ask, who is this that the cabinets have been included, i just happen to have a guide. Who is Jesus to the Father? You will find the true blessed face of Jesus in Redemptorist Church, 1962 crucifix. If the blessed crucifix has been donated to another new built church, then, go to the back, you'll find a Shrine of Jesus, only that it is bigger built. The 1962 blessed crucifix was His true blessed face.

I hope that you can accept this true fact that Jesus, has already descended Earth on His Second Coming. It was said that the Son of Man will come just like in the events of Noah, floods. The manholes in the city should be fixed, so that when it rains so hard, that the street roads will not flood. To all, a Happy New Year.
